Study Abroad

The School offers opportunities to study abroad under the highly successful SOCRATES-ERASMUS programmes. This is a European Union scheme, which allows Exeter undergraduates to study at universities elsewhere in Europe as an integral part of their Degree Programmes. The number of partner universities, and of course available places, varies from year to year but is always extensive.

The rewards of foreign study are numerous. They include a working knowledge of foreign languages, direct familiarity with the culture of a foreign country, greater self-confidence and many new friends. But the rewards are not limited to linguistic and cultural skills; there are also considerable academic advantages.

The School of Law has Erasmus exchange agreements with universities in France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania, Spain and Switzerland. 'As part of my LLB with European Study I spent nine months studying law at the Université d'Aix-Marseille in the South of France. It was the most fantastic year of my life and my language skills and self-confidence improved beyond belief. When I came back to Exeter I became a member of the national Erasmus Student Council. With an ever-expanding Europe, knowledge of another language and an awareness of another country's culture are a great advantage - employers value the academic and personal skills that you will gain during your year abroad and you'll find that you are highly employable.
