Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
The Law School aims to be known and celebrated for having a vibrant, supportive working environment that promotes fairness, diversity, professionalism and achievement for all staff and students.
Our EDI Committee brings together staff with responsibility for a range of portfolios, including research, education, global engagement, widening participation, student support and student skills development. Its members sit on all of the Law School’s core committees and its Departmental Leadership Team, ensuring that EDI considerations influence all aspects of Law School activity.
In January 2026 the Law School was awarded Athena Swan Bronze Award after submitting an application in September 2022. The Athena Swan Charter is a framework which is used across the globe to support and transform gender equality within higher education and research.

Athena Swan
In September 2025 the Law School submitted an application for an Athena Swan Bronze Award and was awarded it in January 2026.
The Community Law Clinic
The Community Law Clinic opened its doors in September 2017. We assist individuals who are not eligible for legal aid or are otherwise unable to afford private legal advice.
We recognise and seek to fill the gaps left by legal aid cuts and help individuals access justice in a system which often appears overly complex, confusing and expensive.
Pathways to Law
Pathways to Law is an innovative and exciting programme, which provides fantastic opportunities for sixth form students who are interested in law. Jointly managed and funded by the Sutton Trust, Pathways is offered at 13 UK universities, including the University of Exeter. The programme targets high-achieving students in state schools and colleges who will be the first generation in their family to attend university.
