LAW1020/1022 Introduction to Law/Legal Foundations

Available via distance learning

This module aims to develop your understanding of the legal and ethical principles involved in medical events and decision making processes and your appreciation of the complex and sometimes conflicting practical and moral tensions behind such principles. It aims to raise your understanding of practical and theoretical implications and ‘solution-resistant’ dilemmas and in addition, to develop your appreciation of the relationship between law and ethics and medical practice and research. It does not however explore the law of medical negligence, except in passing.

The module is an optional module, recommended for those with an interest in the practice of medical law, or those who wish to explore the interaction of law with the operation of medicine in its clinical and research context. No specialist knowledge of medicine or science is required.
