Dr Annika Jones is an Associate Professor in Law at the University of Exeter. She joined the Law School in 2022. Prior to this, she was an Associate Professor in Law at the University of Durham. In 2009, she worked in the Chambers of the International Criminal Court (ICC), in the Appeals and Trial Divisions. From 2007-2012, she worked on the development of the ICC’s National Implementing Legislation Database, one of the ICC’s digital legal tools.

 

Annika’s current research focusses on the inclusivity of victim participation in international criminal justice. Annika’s research has also examined the pursuit of efficiency in international criminal courts and tribunals and the impact of efficiency-building on the nature and function of these institutions. Her articles on this topic have been published in the Journal of International Criminal Justice and the International Criminal Law Review. Another strand of her research addresses the nature, scope and consequences of judicial interaction in the adjudication of international crimes. This research includes articles published in the North Carolina Journal of International Law and the Human Rights Law Review.

 

Annika is the Director of the Exeter Centre for International Law (ECIL). She is also a Director of Wellbeing, Inclusion and Culture for Exeter Law School and part of the Law School's leadership team. She is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and a member of the editorial board of the International Criminal Law Review.

 

Biography:

Dr Jones holds a first-class degree in Law (LLB) and an LLM in International Criminal Justice and Armed Conflict with distinction, both from the University of Nottingham. Her doctoral thesis, which examined the use of external case law in the early years of the ICC’s operation, was completed at the same institution. In 2012, she was awarded the University of Nottingham Endowed Postgraduate Prize for her doctoral research.
