Dr David Yuratich
Senior Lecturer
Law School
I joined Exeter in August 2022, having previously been a lecturer in law at Royal Holloway, University of London and, before that, at Bournemouth University. I am a Senior Lecturer in Law and also act as the co-Director of Education and Student Experience for the Law School. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I also hold a BA History from the University of Exeter, a Graduate Diploma in Law from Southampton Solent University, and an LLM in European Union Law from the University of Reading. I am a Trustee of the Association of Law Teachers, which is a major scholarly society for those interested in the teaching of law.
My teaching and research lie mainly in the fields of public law, EU law, and legal education; I also have extensive teaching experience in human rights law, contract law, and criminal law. My most recent publication is the textbook Public Law: Principles to Practice (OUP).
I am particularly interested in public legal education and in 2022 I worked with the UK Supreme Court to write, co-produce, and co-present 'Inside The Supreme Court', a free online course which introduces the Court's work and its role in the UK legal system to a general audience. This course, which you can access using this link, includes interviews with current and former Justices and discusses topics including the creation of the Court, its position in the UK's legal system, the way in which it reached six of its most significant decisions, how it compares to other courts around the world, and the work done by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. I had previously worked with the Supreme Court on other outreach activities, running public engagement sessions on leading cases at Open Days and in co-creating videos on landmark decisions as part of the Court's 10th anniversary celebrations, for display in the Court's museum space.
