Dr Güneş Ünüvar is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Exeter Law School. His research focuses on international economic law, international dispute settlement, and international and European space law. He is particularly interested in how legal regimes respond to technological, geopolitical, and environmental change, including the regulation of commercial space activities, space resources, foreign investment, and the protection of public interests in international economic governance.

Before joining Exeter, Güneş was a Senior Researcher at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law, University of Luxembourg, and previously held postdoctoral and research positions at the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law and iCourts, the Danish National Research Foundation’s Centre of Excellence for International Courts at the University of Copenhagen. He holds a PhD in International Law from the University of Copenhagen.

Güneş is the author of The Transformation of International Investment Law and Its Principles: Indirect Expropriation and Fair and Equitable Treatment (Springer, 2025) and has published widely on investment law, dispute settlement, international courts and tribunals, and space law. He is also active in a number of professional and editorial roles, including as Managing Editor of the Journal of World Investment & Trade, Associate Fellow of the Academy of International Affairs Nordrhein-Westfalen in Bonn, Germany, Co-Chair of the IISL Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Committee, and Legal Advisor and Board Member of the Moon Village Association.
