Dr. Manu Misra joined the University of Exeter as a Lecturer in Law (E&R) in August 2024. His research specialises international economic law, particularly international investment law, investor-state dispute settlement, foreign investment regulations and the politics of foreign direct investment (FDI). More recently, his research has focused on intersection of law and geoeconomics, along with the economic dimension of national security laws, particularly those governing foreign investment and cross-border data flows.

 

Prior to joining Exeter Law School, Dr. Misra was previously a Postdoctoral Global Fellow at the FGV School of Law in Sao Paulo and a Visiting Fellow at the BRICS Policy Center (BPC) and the Center for Technology and Society (CTS-FGV) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He received his Ph.D. in Legal Studies (International Law & Economics) from Bocconi University, Milan, Italy, an LL.M. in Law & Economics (EMLE) from the University of Hamburg, Germany, and a B.A. (Hons) in Finance, Accounting & Management from the University of Nottingham (UK). He has also been a Visiting Scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Procedural Law in Luxembourg and the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg, Germany. He has previously worked for the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance within the Government of India where he contributed to the drafting of India’s 2015/16 Model Bilateral Investment Treaty.

 

Dr. Misra is also a Fellow of the Helsinki Geoeconomics Society, Finland.
