Overview

Dr Mireia Garcés de Marcilla Musté joined the University of Exeter as a Lecturer in Law (E&R) in July 2023. Her research has the body as the principal feature of examination, and her work explores the socially-laden norms and narratives embedded in, and created by, the medico-legal regulation of embodiment. 

Prior to joining Exeter, Mireia completed her PhD in Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her thesis constituted an intersectional feminist analysis of the gaps and mismatches between different understandings of modifications, cuts or surgeries on the vulva and the vagina. She studied law in Universitat Pompeu Fabra (LL.B.) and the University of Oxford (Diploma in Legal Studies, dist.). She also holds an MA in Medical Ethics and Law (dist.) from King's College London and an MPhil in Law from the University of Oxford.

She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and teaches Criminal Law and Medical Ethics and Law.
