Law School Staff Student Liaison Committee (SSLC)

The Law School Staff Student Liason Committee is committed to enabling students to communicate their views and suggestions to influence changes to policies and procedures. It is run by a team of staff and elected student representatives who work in partnership to enhance the educational experience of students within the Law School. The SSLC usually meets twice per term.

As a student, the SSLC can be used to:

  • Influence how your degree is run.
  • Suggest changes to anything connected to the Law School.
  • Improve communication between staff and students within the Law School.
  • Raise concerns about your teaching department.
  • Comment on the personal tutoring system.

You can give feedback to any of your department's student reps who will be able to share your views at SSLC meetings. Feedback will be anonymised and treated with respect.

Thriving culture of prizes and scholarships

The Law School has a thriving culture of prizes and scholarships which involves collaboration with, and taking inspiration from, influential global partners, donors, and Exeter alumni.

At the University of Exeter, our culture of prizes and scholarships is based upon two core guiding principles: ‘beyond marks’ and ‘beyond money’. The first relates to the criteria upon which the student winners are selected and includes extracurricular activities, community engagement and leadership.  The ‘beyond money’ principle encourages the students to take advantage and think in terms of wider developmental opportunities offered by the donors.

The diverse portfolio of prizes on offer at the Law School have been developed in close partnership with our donors, Law School leadership, our academic staff, Exeter alumni, and our students with a view to cultivating long term relationships that will lead to improved careers and professional development opportunities for Exeter Law School graduates.

We have a couple of new prizes this academic year. Firstly the Alexander Lofgren Pro Bono Memorial Prize has been kindly donated by Druces LLP, in memory of Exeter alumnus Alex Lofgren who sadly passed away in 2022.

Our second new prize is sponsored by IPAN, the Intellectual Property Awareness Network, whose prize will be awarded to the third year student with the highest overall average in LAW3028. The winner will receive £100 plus the opportunity to meet the Board of the Intellectual Property Awareness Network (by video link or in-person) to put the IP understanding they have achieved at university into context, and find out more about how IP is developed and commercialised in the creative and digital economies.

Please see below the current list of our prizes and how they align with our culture of prizes and scholarships. For any queries related to prizes at the Law School, or to sponsor a new prize, please contact the Director of Prizes and Scholarships, Louise Loder.

You can see pictures of some of this year's prize winners here.
