Our Centenary has been a wonderful opportunity to connect with our alumni and to celebrate their invaluable support. At our Centenary Ball on 17 November 2023 we were delighted to recognise Steve Edge (Law 1972) with The Outstanding Contribution to Exeter Law School Award.

We wanted to recognise the impact that Steve Edge has had within the Law School and for his support in other areas of the University. We saw no better way to mark our Centenary than to celebrate Steve in this way. Over many years he has contributed to the growth and development of many aspects of the University.

The Centenary Ball was a special evening at Rockbeare Manor just outside Exeter attended by distinguished alumni, friends of the Law School, current students and staff.

Guests were welcomed to the event with live music courtesy of members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and after dinner the band Reckless provided the backdrop to an evening of dancing. You can see more of our photos from the event on this Flickr page. Photos were taken on the night by Theo Moye.

The CELS Lasok Lecture 2023

The Court of Justice and traits and trends in data protection law, presented by Christopher Docksey

Wednesday 8 November 12.30

The 2023 Lasok Lecture was delivered by Christopher Docksey, Honorary Director-General of the EDPS, on the evolving legal landscape of data protection and the GDPR. Christopher Docksey started his academic career in Exeter, under the guidance of Professor Dominik Lasok QC.

In the Centenary year of the Exeter's Law School it is fitting to celebrate Professor Lasok's achievements, as the prominent scholar of European law in the UK and the founder of the CELS, by bringing back the annual Lasok Lecture (paused for the pandemic).

This year the lecture was introduced by Dr Paul Lasok KC, barrister and son of Professor Dominik Lasok QC. The annual Lasok Lecture, held since 1977, attracts eminent speakers including EU commissioners, politicians and judges to deliver a paper on an aspect of European Union law of current and significant interest to a wide public audience.
